the first day...and laying it down
The first day went off without any problems, embarrassments, or major goofs. We had a 1/2 day assembly where we had praise and worship as an entire school, I met with the class I'm sponsoring (Seniors), we handed out schedules, talked about electives, introduced all us teachers, and went over the rules.
When Dana (who is our principal) was finished explaining the no cell phone, i-pod rule, I quietly raised my hand in the back, and when called on, stated, "if a cell phone rings in my class, you can count on me taking it and throwing it in the trash." Then there were some gasps and "uhhhs" from the students. I guess I'm just a cell phonbiac.
It was really good today, and nearly every student I met seemed to be respectful and kind, some of course were timid and shy, others a little more gung-ho, but myself and some other teachers are already under the impression that we're going to be teaching some great kids...
