Craig & rice

Craig, my roommate, has been eating a lot of rice lately. Nearly every other meal involves rice. The reason, you ask? Well, he bought a microwave rice maker, and was absolutely giddy about it. I think he gets more pleasure in getting to use his new contraption and that the rice is just a poor left over party favor from the deal. Although, I think he still likes facebook more than he likes his rice maker, but I would say they're pretty close. That's saying something.

La garantía

So a quirky thing in Argentina: when you rent real estate, like an apartment, you have to have an individual who owns personal property sign on to the lease. Basically, that person and their property becomes collateral on the lease. Unfortunately, I think that Argentines fear quite a lot, and have lots of fear, comparatively more to what I've experienced in the US and other countries; I think this is one example of it. I understand the reason for their fear -- the economic crisis of late 2001 and 2002 is still fresh on everyone's mind, and most are very unwilling to even slightly risk their own assets to be a garantor. Thus, it makes it somewhat difficult for someone who can't afford their own place to rent an apartment.

So you wonder how young people start off and get going on their own? Slowly. I think I've found another reason why lots of people here stay in their parents' homes until they're 25 or 26, unless they get married before that age (that calls for a move out). It makes a lot more sense. Save longer with fewer expenses & keep eating the free cereal at home.

Sad day.

Today, Coach Skip Prosser passed away at the age of 56. He suffered a heart attack while out jogging. Not only was Coach Prosser an outstanding teacher, he put priority on character and his players graduating on time, which to me is better than being the great coach that he was. In such a high stakes world of college athletics, Coach Prosser stood above the rest for his integrity and character. I respected him very much. He was not above taking time out to talk to you or exchange a friendly greeting on campus. His family and Wake Forest, his other family, have lost a great man. Thank you Lord for the season of life that Skip Prosser spent at Wake Forest, and allowing for his outstanding character to touch so many. May You keep His family and bless Him.

A++

For those of you who know me, you know of my cereal fanaticism. Well, another cereal has broken into my realm of top favorites, no easy feat to do. I like their granola bars too, I guess they just make good products:

I'm just saying

I've been a fan of Bebo Norman for a while now, and have been re-animado of late with his new single, "I will lift my eyes" I think it's a chunk of awesomeness. If you want to hear, you can visit his MySpace page and listen to it:

Back in BA!

I made it back yesterday, bringing with me 7 boxes of cereal. The customs officer asked me what I had in the bag. I was honest, and said cereal. She looked at me funny and said continue on.

My time in the states was great. It was complete, and much like Goldilock's porridge - just right. I really enjoyed catching up with friends, spending some great time with Mable, and getting my butt handed to me on the tennis court by Uncle Barry. I'm very appreciative for the brothers and sisters in Christ that I know - it is one of the most precious things to me for the community that it is. I'm thankful for time with them as it was very encouraging and affirming for me.

This is random, but I really like Bebo Norman's new song, "I will lift my eyes"...it's on his myspace page if you're curious...bebo

I'm really excited about this upcoming year. I know that the Lord has some cool things in store....
